Atherton to Walkamin Rail Trail

Transplan Pty Ltd has been appointed by the Tablelands Regional Council to prepare a concept plan for the development of a trail on the disused railway between Atherton and Walkamin. The tasks include preparation of works lists, estimates of costs, trailhead designs, road crossing designs and artists impressions of what the rail trail will look like once completed. The proposed trail is approximately 20 kilometres long. Originally the intention was to develop a 36km trail between Atherton and Mareeba but with de-amalgamation occuring it is anticipated the 16km section of future trail in the Mareeba Council area will be developed at a future date.

Shire of West Arthur Trails Master Plan

The Shire of West Arthur has appointed Transplan Pty Ltd to prepare a trails master plan for the municipality. The plan will encompass the existing Collie to Darkan Rail Trail; extensions to that rail trail; and investigate the feasibility of developing a new rail trail on the disused railway corridor between Bowelling (on the Collie Darkan Rail Trail) and Wagin. Other new trails will be investigated including the possibility of a walk trail within the Hillman Rock Nature Reserve, the site of an historic water catchment scheme on a granite outcrop, with a long concrete flume from the rock to a dam.

Port Fairy Rail Trail on the move

The Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail is currently being constructed. The Directors of Transplan recently inspected progress of construction. Mike Maher was involved in the initial planning of this trail.
